Serhii Vasylovych Koval

Biography
He lived in Kamianets-Podilskyi, where he graduated from the Military Engineering Faculty of the Podillia State Agrarian and Engineering Academy. He began his service as a commander of a demining platoon. He was a participant in peacekeeping missions, in particular in Afghanistan (2014—2015).
He was a participant in the Anti-Terrorist Operation in eastern Ukraine and the Joint Forces Operation in Donetsk and Luhansk regions from 2014, from the first days of the war.
He was killed on March 26, 2021, near the settlement of Shumy in Donetsk region, while conducting reconnaissance of a mined area, as a result of a fatal wound sustained during sniper fire.
During the mission, shelling of Ukrainian servicemen by units of the occupying forces of the Russian Federation began. The group commander, Lieutenant Colonel Koval, provided first aid and tried to evacuate the mortally wounded Senior Sergeant Serhii Barnych. Senior Sergeant Maksym Abramovych and Senior Soldier Serhii Haichenko were also killed at that time; Starshyna Serhii Bruska sustained severe wounds, and Senior Soldier Heshchuk sustained moderate wounds.
